You’re an Expert – Right?

Last week I was working with one of my one-on-one consulting clients,
and she asked me the most interesting question.

She said – "So I know I work with you and pay you for your help and I know
I will leave here today and implement the things that we talked about.

And I know that you have done these things yourself and you know what works and
what doesn’t. But what makes you the expert?"

VERY good question.  And of course – all
of that was leading up to the real question – which is "what can I
do so that I am the expert?"

So before I launched into my explanation, I asked her why SHE thought I was an
expert and she said – with no hesitation – "Confidence."

What was MOST interesting about this little exchange was how virtually
everything you need to know about being an expert was contained in those few
sentences!

So here they are in a nutshell:

1.  You HAVE to know what you are talking about.  It doesn’t
matter how much exposure you get, if what you say doesn’t ring true with your
audience and doesn’t bring them the results that you claim it will, you will
quickly NOT be an expert.

2.  Having the confidence to SAY you are the expert. I in
fact DO know that the advice I give and the results it gets WORK!  They
have worked for me and for hundreds of others.  And when you work with me
one-on-one or in a group setting I can help you tweak my experience and
knowledge to your specific situation. And it works.

Now you know what you have to have before you can establish yourself as an
expert.

Soon I will talk about the things you can do to actually start
establishing your expert reputation.

Have a great week – and don’t forget to view and post to the blog about your habits! It’s a fun one!

  1. Having the confidence to say you are an expert comes from believing it first! If you believe in yourself, then you can convey that to your customers. It is really important to see yourself as an expert or others never will!
