Redesign and Staging Business Fears

The anxiety people feel
when they are about to launch a new venture is palpable!  I often speak to
people who want to get started in the business of design, and they are so tense
and anxious you can practically feel it coming through the phone line!

They know they are
talented and can do the actual work, but they simply don’t know where to
begin.  And this not knowing can turn quickly into fear which can turn
quickly into in-action and the next thing you know you are frozen
and time has passed and you still haven’t done anything to start your
business!

One of the biggest
reasons we put things off and procrastinate is because we are big scaredy-cats!

The good news
- everyone does it, so you are not alone. And, just by recognizing when YOU
are afraid to do something – you will then be free to take action and get those
things off your list.

The fear
shows up in a couple of different ways. The big three are 1)Fear of Change
2) Fear of Failure and 3)Fear of Success
(hard to imagine that one, isn’t
it!) Today I will focus on the Fear of Change.

My experience
is that the fear in change lies in the unknown – and in our mind, this new
change may have a negative outcome.
Since you don’t know what this change
will bring, you feel as though you may not have the energy or the potential to
cope with what this change will bring.

Here are a
couple of tips to try next time the fear of change grabs you: 1. Write down a list
of all the POSITIVE things
that will come out of the change. 2. Picture
SOMEONE ELSE – not you – going through the change,
and see how they handle
it. 3. Imagine the WORST case scenario – what is the WORST thing that might
happen – and then look for solutions.
If you can find a reasonable solution
- you are stronger than the change!

The bottom
line is that life is constantly changing whether we like it or not – and hey, staying
in one place is boring anyway!
So try to get excited by the changes that
you need to make that are in your best interest, and do what’s best for you,
rather than what’s comfortable.

Let me know what fears have been holding you back and how you came out ahead!
