Last week’s Recedorating, Redesign and Home Staging class was just incredible, and not surprisingly, brought up tons of topics that needed to be discussed.
And as always, the ever present question of “How Do I Do It All?” came up.
So you know my short answer – you DON’T do it all – you do what fits and makes sense for your business goals and objectives.
But sometimes even THOSE things add up to just too much, and you have to use another criteria to decide what to do – and more importantly what NOT to do.
For example, one of my consulting clients knows that it is time to start her website. It will allow people to find her more easily as well as give her great exposure for her portfolio.
But in the meantime, she is scheduling local speaking gigs like there is no tomorrow, with 2 already under her belt and several more planned. Which has kept her from starting her website, so she was really beating herself up over it.
Both speaking gigs and her website are very important to her business. And yes, eventually she should be doing both. So this was my guidance to her:
You only have time to do one of those things. Right now, the speaking gigs are actually bringing in business, and getting you known here and now. That is DEFINITELY the thing you should be concentrating on – the thing that will bring in business today. Your website is a long term strategy for getting clients – and with things slow down a bit you can be sure to focus on that next. So don’t be hard on yourself for not getting to your website – be proud of yourself for all of the speaking that you are doing!
So next time YOU are forced into deciding what is most important on your big list – remember – it is the thing that will bring you business today.
Have a great week!
