Frozen? But It’s 95 Degrees!

It is hard to imagine but it is true.  Monday I was frozen.

You know how I have been humming along for the past several weeks, being more productive every day it seemed.  And things were moving along, and I was trying to be very aware so that I wouldn't get to a spot where I was overwhelmed.  Because typically when that happens it makes me feel bad and yucky and that was not a place I wanted to be.

So I'm paying attention and being aware, and while I was looking for panic and overwhelm so I could avoid it ….. instead I found frozen- or it found me.

This is a very new experience for me, and as I have "melted" just this morning, I was happy to see that frozen actually felt better than panic and overwhelm.

So Monday I went to start my work day and looked at the massive amount of work that I "needed" to do for consulting clients and design clients both, and I just froze.  I would look at the list and be numb.  I would try to prioritize and find myself surfing the net.  I would set my timer to type up email responses and start typing notes to personal friends.  I was frozen.

Things continued that way – I did have 2 appointments, and those went fine, but even the process I put into place for AFTER meeting with a client I didn't do.

And it lasted into Tuesday morning.

By Tuesday afternoon I was meeting one-on-one with my Designing Your Success peers.  We have such great talks! And at the end of one of the discussions, I was asked how I was doing, so I told them. (It is impossible for me to tell anything but the truth!)  And some great advice I have given before was given right back to me. "Mary, you are frozen because you need a break.  Don't beat yourself up for the fact that you have a big list to do and you didn't make any progress today or yesterday.  Take the break you need – your productivity will come back."

And sure enough it did! Today, I picked up my huge pile, and I picked up one of my FAVORITE resources of all time for managing projects – David Allen's Getting Things Done.  (sign up for his newsletter or get his book HERE.    And I am planning, planning planning so that I can GET THINGS DONE.

So thanks for the great advice, and maybe that is the same advice one of you need right now.

And heck, with it being 95 degrees outside right now in Raleigh – frozen isn't such a bad place to be! : )

Have great rest of the week!!

-Mary
