This is one of my fave articles from last year – worth repeating! Enjoy!
We are all so busy and there are a million things to do. And as good, hardworking business owners we are always focused on the things we are doing for our clients. But this week – before you go on client appointments – I want you to think about YOU. Yes YOU.
Are you prepared for your next appointment so that YOU can get the most out of it? Are YOU getting what you want? Get the most out of every meeting by asking yourself these questions and implementing the following ideas:
1. Evaluate the Meeting – Is this a first meeting with a brand new client? Is this a client you work with all the time and this is a standing project update meeting? Is this a third meeting with a client and you still haven’t closed the sale?
2. What Do You REALLY Want to Accomplish? – After you evaluate the meeting, what outcome would you like to see? Maybe with the new client you want to establish rapport and set-up a second meeting before you leave. Maybe with the project update meeting you want to share some new ideas that could turn into the next project. And maybe with the third meeting client you want to close the sale and bring home a deposit check!
3. Write It Down! – Grab a sticky note and write it down! For example, for the new client:
- 1. I WILL set up a second appointment with this client before I leave today
- 2. I WILL suggest something she wasn’t thinking about that will get her excited to do a bigger project
- 3. I WILL give her 3 business cards and ask her to give them to her friends in the neighborhood.
4. Add a MONEY Line – Think about how much money you make on an average sale with a client like the one you are going to see today. Let’s say on average you make $3000 with first time clients. Add a money line to your sticky note stating:
5. Review Your List – Bring the sticky note with you to your clients – stick it right on your dashboard! Review it at every red light and stop in traffic, and review it again right before meeting with the client.
I am convinced that we are so good at thinking about our clients that we often forget about what WE want out of the work we do every day. I am also convinced that thinking about what you want will NOT impact what you do for your clients, but will GREATLY impact how you feel about what you do – especially when you start getting the things you want! Let me know what great things YOU want – and GET! – this week!
Have a GREAT week!
-Mary
