Ahh, Progress…and Process!

Earlier in the month I knew I was in a procrastination mode, and had decided to use the time "productively" doing some other things that I wanted to get done.

Well, that was on Tuesday.  So by the time Thursday rolled around and I STILL wasn't in production mode, quite frankly I actually got depressed.  Down right depressed.

Then I launched into completely beating myself up because hey, that's what I do, apparently.

What I finally decided to do was write down the major topics of every thing on my mind, and then right down every action item that I could think of that was associated with them.

I did this in Excel, and some of my topics were:

  • finish newsletters for designers to use

  • update website

  • prepare for mastermind call

  • finish "what should I say when" product

  • finish client kitchen remodel elevations

Then, under each heading, I wrote down every thought I had about that topic.

So underneath finish "what should I say project" I wrote:

  • design cover sheet

  • format tutorial

  • add footer to every page

  • prepare a press release

  • etc

Perhaps surprisingly, this took me two full hours to do!  And man alive, is the list lllloooonnnnggggg.

But here's the good news.  Once I had the list together (which by the way, changes and grows and shrinks daily!) I suddenly had a bunch of action items that I could actually work on – and guess what, I finally got to work!

So MAYBE next time when I get frozen… I won't wait FIVE FULL DAYS to get moving… maybe next time I will immediately go to my "new process."  And do a complete brain dump on paper, get it all out of my head, get unfrozen, and get going!

It's a nice thought, isn't it??!

Let me know if this process can work for you!

Have a great week!

-Mary

PS – I have to say, maybe there is a piece of me that procrastinated so long because I didn't want to KNOW how much work was really in front of me??

Thoughts to ponder….
